Guild & Spence Electrical has been established in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty for over 40 years. It’s thanks to our incredible customers and kind, brilliant staff that has made us the largest locally owned electrical company in the region. The Bay is our home and we’re so thankful for it.

Many of our staff are shareholders which means our team takes even greater care in giving the highest level of service possible. We live and breathe what we do, which is providing residential, commercial, rural and industrial customers with outstanding service.

    The history of Guild & Spence Electrical

    Guild & Spence started way back in 1979. Take a quick look at the timeline of Guild & Spence Electrical.

    1979

    Ray Guild starts out on his own as Guild Electrical, carrying out all facets of electrical work, especially in orchard irrigation works.

    2000

    Craig Smale, who is already an employee, buys shares in the company and becomes a director as we farewell Winston. Craig heads our Residential Division.

    2006

    Guild & Spence becomes the first electrical company in the Bay of Plenty to specialise in home automation and technologies.

    2008

    Guild & Spence Heat Pumps is formed, specialising in heat pump sales and servicing. This division is headed by shareholder Jenny Bailey.

    2018

    The staff number is now at 52, with 15 staff members working for Guild & Spence for ten years or more.

    1982

    Ray employs Winston Spence. Two years later Ray sold Winston shares in the company, now known as Guild & Spence Electrical. Ray heads the Tauranga branch and Winston at the Mount (years before the Harbour Bridge was built).

    2005

    Bruce Robinson becomes a director, replacing Craig Culley who tragically passed away. Bruce heads our Commercial Division.

    2007

    The formal launch of the Service Department, headed by Jamie Mardon. A dedicated 24/7 on call Service Department to cater for your every need, from installing a power point to an urgent breakdown. Service in a flash!

    2009

    Guild & Spence Technologies is formed as a separate company with branches in Wellington, Hamilton, Bay of Plenty and Auckland. Staff number around 40.

    2021

    Guild & Spence Electrical continue to be the Bay of Plenty’s largest locally owned electrical company. Embracing the very latest industry best practice, Powerco approved contractor Guild & Spence expand their range of services and support for the residential, commercial, rural, solar and industrial sectors.
